This blog has been developed by the University of Melbourne Archives for the purpose of showcasing the work of students from the French Cultural Studies class at the University of Melbourne.

The students viewed diaries, correspondence and ephemera from the University of Melbourne Archives collections of Australian soldiers who fought in France in the First World War. Many of these soldiers were University students or staff. The collections provide a snapshot of soldiers’ experiences in France, both the horrors of the trenches but also the leisure activities that they engaged in, reflected in the pieces below.
