About

This blog has been set up by the University of Melbourne Archives for the purpose of showcasing the work of students from the French Cultural Studies class at the University of Melbourne.

The students will be looking at diaries, correspondence and ephemera from the University of Melbourne Archives collections of Australian soldiers who fought in France in the First World War. Many of these soldiers were University students or staff. The collections provide a snapshot of soldiers’ experiences in France, both the horrors of the trenches but also the leisure activities that they engaged in.

By the end of November 2012 we will have updated this blog with short pieces written by the students, and will continue to add to the blog in the lead-up to the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the war in 2014.
